Howard Thomas confirmed as Chief Executive of Premier Rugby

27 August 2002

Premier Rugby, the umbrella organisation responsible for the promotion and management of the 12 elite clubs in England, today (24th August) confirmed Howard Thomas has been appointed as Chief Executive on a permanent basis with immediate effect.  Howard has held the position in an acting capacity since October 1998.  The appointment, as previously announced, means that Howard will now join the England Rugby Board.

Charles Jillings, Chairman of Premier Rugby said, "I am delighted that Howard has accepted to stay on as Chief Executive.  He has been instrumental in the success of many of Premier Rugby's achievements over the past three and a half years.  Howard is committed to the future growth of the club game and his extensive experience will continue to prove invaluable to the clubs and the game."

Howard Thomas said, "After careful consideration I am delighted to commit to Premier Rugby on a permanent basis.  I have enjoyed the last few years and I believe there is still a great deal of work to be done in implementing what we have achieved and in promoting and managing the club game.  It is a very exciting time for English club rugby and I am looking forward to the challenges which lie ahead."

Previously Chief Executive of Sale Sharks, a position he held for 2 and a half years, Howard joined Premier Rugby in 1998.  He is married with one son.
