London Wasps team for Worcester clash

29 August 2003

London Wasps Director of Rugby, Warren Gatland, has named a strong side that will travel to Sixways to face Worcester, on Friday 29th August, kick-off 7:30pm.

Gatland has made two changes to the backline from the one that started last weekend's Zurich Challenge game against Stade Franais. After missing that game due to bronchitis, Rob Howley returns and will be captain. The other change is with Fraser Waters starting at centre due to an injury to Ayoola Erinle. Erinle took a heavy knock to the ankle last Sunday and is sidelined for this game.

In the pack, four changes have been made. Ben Gotting replaces Phil Greening at hooker while Paul Volley and Peter Scrivener will replace Jonny O'Connor and Mark Lock at flanker and No.8 respectively.

Asked about Friday night's clash against Worcester, Volley said, " Worcester are a very strong side and will offer us the perfect pre-season game. It's important that we use this game to get the final preparations right ahead of our first league game. We've had a good training session this week and I'm looking forward to what I know will be a tough game".

George Skivington, who scored Wasps third try last Sunday with his first touch of the ball, will replace Martin Purdy at lock.

Craig Dowd also returns to the side and is included on the bench. Gatland has also named an additional four players including Phil Greening, who will also be on the bench.
