Tykes coaching team agree new deals

Leeds Tykes have today confirmed that Director of Rugby Phil Davies and First Team Coach Jon Callard have agreed new contracts ahead of the start of the new Zurich Premiership season.

The deals were finalised yesterday and it will see Davies begin a new four year contract at Headingley whilst Callard, who was out of contract, agreeing a new two year deal.

Davies joined Leeds in 1996 when the club were in National Three and has overseen the rise to the Zurich Premiership and this season the Heineken Cup. Jon Callard joined the Tykes at the start of last season from Bath on an initial one year contract.

Commenting on the announcement Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, "We have recognised the tremendous impact our entire coaching team have had on our success and we are delighted that Phil and Jon have agreed to their new deals.  We have also signed new contracts with Steve Carter and Simon Middleton to complete our coaching team."

Davies, whose new deal will keep him at Headingley until June 2007, commented, "Our achievements last year were a tremendous credit to the team and the players efforts.  In our recruitment policy this summer we have tried to bring in young, exciting players who will give us longevity.  I want to continue and build on the success we have already gained."
