Tykes make make loan signing to ease hooker worries

18 December 2003

Leeds Tykes have signed England U21 international hooker Andrew Kyriacou from Sale Sharks for a month to ease the pressure on the hooking position at the club.
First choice hooker Mark Regan is playing for England on Saturday whilst second choice Rob Rawlinson suffered a calf injury in last weeks narrow defeat to Toulouse. That leaves Matt Holt as the only senior hooker available for Sunday's clash with Gloucester at Headingley, kick off 2.30pm.

Kyriacou, 20, worked with Tykes coach Jon Callard at the U21 World Cup last season and will be on the bench for Sunday's game when he could make his debut for the club.

Meanwhile, the Tykes have been inundated with requests for tickets from fans to see the World Cup at Headingley this Sunday.  As part of the tour of England the Webb Ellis Cup will be paraded at half time of the game and the effect of the Cup's presence has seen a real upturn in interest in the game.

Commenting on the rise Marketing Executive Nick Fletcher said, "We have had interest from right across Yorkshire, with many club's joining us for the first time. Everyone is extremely proud of England's achievement in Australia and it would be great to see the Yorkshire public turn out and acknowledge that success."
