Zurich 'A' League - Gloucester Team News

12 December 2003

A strong Gloucester Rugby Club 'A' side meet Harlequins on Monday night at Kingsholm in the second fixture of the recently launched Zurich 'A' League, kick-off 7.30pm.

The Cherry and Whites starting XV, captained by Paul Johnstone, will have a back-line made up entirely of Academy products, all of whom have experienced action with the first team.

From full-back Rory Teague, through to scrum-half Alex Page, six of the backs have been involved with matchday Zurich Premiership squads this season.

The pack, led by Johnstone, sees an exciting back-row of Nick Southern, James Merriman and Luke Narraway.

The 'A' league is a new league format that combines first team squad members and U21s players from the Zurich Premiership clubs.

The leagues are split into two conferences of six clubs (north and south), and the winners of each conference will play each other in a final.

The Zurich 'A' league got underway on Monday 8 December with Gloucester travelling the short journey to Bath's Recreation Ground. The team, watched by both Nigel Melville and Dean Ryan put in a fine performance and demolished Bath 58-12.

Entrance is FREE to season ticket holders. For non-season ticket holders standing is 5 and U16s are 3.
