Four English sides fail at Group stage

20 January 2003

Again this season only two of England's six entrants in the Heineken Cup made it through to the Quarter-finals. This is the fourth season running that four of the Premiership sides have fell at the first hurdle and failed to make the Quarter-final.

Leicester Tigers made it out of the Group stage for the fifth time in six attempts with 1990/00 the only season they have failed to so.

Northampton Saints made it to the Quarter-finals for the second time in four attempts, the only other time was 1999/00 when they won the Cup at Twickenham against Munster.
