Bath Rugby are delighted to announce that highly-rated England U21 Prop Matt Stevens has signed a new two-year contract with the club.
Matt, 20, joined the club in September 2002 having enrolled at Bath University to study Politics and Economics and made a massive impact in the closing stages of last season. He became an integral member of the Bath Rugby squad, making five appearances and impressing, amongst others, England coach Andy Robinson.
South African-born Matt played in the recent FIRA Under 21 World Cup for England earlier this year, having previously represented the Junior Springboks at U18 and U19 level.
Matt said, It's very exciting. I've enjoyed my rugby here, I love the club and I love the city. I am pleased to have signed a new contract, it's a great honour to play alongside athletes of the calibre of Mike Catt and Danny Grewcock. There is a great feeling within the squad at present and we're very positive about the new season. It will provide me personally with a big opportunity to prove myself at this level.'
Matt is an enormously talented young player with great potential,' said Head Coach John Connolly. Having already represented England U21 Matt will be pushing hard for a starting place in the Bath Rugby side this season.'
Matt's agent, James Adams of In Touch Sports Ltd added, "Matt is delighted to be signing a new two-year contract with Bath Rugby. He is really happy at the Club and is looking forward to making his mark both in the Zurich Premiership and at a Representative level, whilst continuing his studies at the University of Bath."
The squad will be attending a training camp at the Royal Marines Commando Base at Lympstone, Devon next week as part of their pre-season preparations.
