Andy Gomarsall starts for Gloucester

28 November 2003

Gloucester Rugby Club's faithful will be packed into the Kingsholm ground on Saturday to welcome back its World Cup heroes when the Cherry and Whites take on Northampton (Sat 29 Nov, Kingsholm, kick off 3pm).

The Zurich Premiership clash is SOLD OUT and World Cup winner Andy Gomarsall can't wait to return to Cherry and White action.  Talking to the 29 year-old scrum-half said: "It's great to be back and I want to get straight  back into it all. I'm fighting fit and ready to prove that I've improved whilst I've been at the World Cup."

Gomarsall, who returned from Australia to Kingsholm for his first training session on Wednesday, added: "A few good nights sleep has helped prepare me for the weekend. It was good to meet up with the players again this week."

Gloucester's director of rugby Nigel Melville has put Gomarsall straight back into the starting line-up for Saturday's big game.

The England scrum-half's international colleagues Phil Vickery and Trevor Woodman start from the bench with a front row of  Rodrigo Roncero, Chris Fortey and Andy Deacon starting the game.

Melville and Dean Ryan's options are further extended with the return to first team action of Samoan number eight Junior Paramore. The 35 year-old starts his first game after missing seven weeks with a broken arm.

Joining Paramore is South African full-back Thinus Delport. The World Cup springbok missed last week against Wasps through injury, and joins Marcel Garvey and James Simpson-Daniel in the back three.

James Forrester misses out after picking up a knock in training and Melville and Ryan will make a late call on the number seven shirt.

The Gloucester coaching staff are still without Terry Fanolua, Adam Eustace, Steve Brotherstone and Paul Johnstone, who are all out injured.
