Bath Rugby are delighted to announce that second row James Hudson has signed a new one year deal with the club.
Hudson has played a significant part in Bath Rugby's Zurich Premiership and Heineken Cup campaigns this season. Having started the recent matches against Sale Sharks, Leeds Tykes, London Irish and Benetton Treviso, the 6'7" second row impressed competing in the lineout against the likes of Tom Palmer, Nick Kennedy and Chris Jones. These performances in a run of unbeaten Zurich Premiership matches were also key in lifting Bath Rugby to fourth in the table during the challenging autumn international period when the club was missing the likes of Danny Grewcock and Steve Borthwick.
Bath Rugby's Director of Rugby Jack Rowell said that James was a great talent with a bright future. "We are really pleased that James has signed a new deal with the club," he said. "He is a promising young player who has worked his way through from the Academy to the first team and is now an important squad member. Like Steve Borthwick his lineout skills are exceptional and he has proven this season that he can more than hold his own in the challenging environment that is the Zurich Premiership and Heineken Cup competitions. With international call-ups prominent within the squad, James remains a key member of the Bath Rugby squad."
With three international second rows in Danny Grewcock, Steve Borthwick and Rob Fidler within the Bath Rugby squad competition for places is extremely high, but Bio-Chemistry graduate Hudson has thrived on the challenge and matured into a player who is a key member of squad.
James, 23, said that he was pleased to be committing himself to the club for another season. "I am very happy to be signing a new contract with the club," he explained. "I made my decision based upon a number of factors, but mainly due to the fact that there is such a great set-up at the club. Every aspect from the coaching to the strength and conditioning work through to the medical support is first class. I am really enjoying it here at Bath Rugby and am looking forward to continuing to challenge for a regular place in the side."
