There has been a wide ranging debate on the provision of the RFU's facility for Schools and Youth at Castlecroft, Wolverhampton.
Said Terry Burwell, RFU Director, "With the development of Twickenham Stadium's South Stand, the opportunity to integrate our administration teams at Twickenham has been investigated and as a result the RFU Management Board has concluded that from the summer of 2007 the facility at Castlecroft will close.
"It is emphasised that all staff will have the opportunity of continued employment with the RFU and discussions with everyone concerned have already commenced to reach a satisfactory conclusion. There will also be discussions with Wolverhampton Council, the owners of the Castlecroft lease.
"In many respects this marks the end of an era and it is recognised that Castlecroft has been home, in their development years, to many talented representative players, including 26 of our Rugby World Cup winners. We are committed to ensuring that future young players have an even greater opportunity to develop their playing potential through our new structure.
"It should also be remembered that Castlecroft is the home to both officiating development and our appointments team, whose professionalism will ensure that the RFU's excellent service is maintained.
"Consideration has been given to a number of venues which would make ideal locations for future age grade representative matches and further announcements will be made in due course."
