Leeds Rugby Lead the Way Again

28 July 2005

28th July 2005
Headingley is set to host a great day of rugby entertainment from both codes on Saturday 13th August.

In the week when London Broncos and NEC Harlequins have announced their partnership, following in the footsteps of Leeds Rugby, Headingley will once again show the way by hosting top class fixtures for both codes on the same day.

Leeds Rhinos engage Super League fixture against the Broncos has been moved to Saturday night to be shown live on Sky Sports however Leeds Tykes were already due to play Edinburgh in their only pre-season game in the UK this summer.

The Tykes will now kick off at 3.30pm on the Saturday before the Rhinos game which kicks off at 6.05pm, with fans able to purchase one ticket which will cover both games. The Tykes game is likely to see All Black Justin Marshall make his first appearance for Leeds along with a host of other new signings who have joined last season's Powergen Cup winners.

Commenting on the announcement Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, "This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the unique possibilities we have here at Headingley.  We did a similar exercise four years ago when the Tykes played Llanelli before the Rhinos game against Bradford and it was real success. The Tykes game is our last match before the start of the Guinness Premiership season so will be a tough encounter against quality opposition whilst the Rhinos know they are in for a tough game having lost to London in our last meeting a fortnight ago."

Leeds Tykes Director of Rugby Phil Davies added, "We are really looking forward to it. Interest is at an all time high in the team and this is a great opportunity.  The atmosphere at Headingley for Rhinos games is something special and we experienced that on a number of occasions last year so this will be a chance for us to play in that type of atmosphere in a friendly fixture."

Tickets are on sale now for the whole day and can be bought by calling the Headingley ticket office on 08700 606050 or online  at www.leedsrugby.com .  The match ticket covers entrance to both games although fans are instructed that entrance to the South Stand is only possible with a specific pre-purchased match day ticket, there will be no cash turnstiles to gain entry into the South Stand on the matchday for either game.
