Gloucester Rugby has terminated the agreement it had with defence coach Dave Ellis. The departure of Ellis, who is currently with the French national side, is with immediate effect.

Commenting on head coach Dean Ryan, who is currently progressing the squad's first full-week of pre-season, said: "We won't be commenting on the specifics of the departure. The Club is now in the process of recruiting a high-level full-time defence coach."

Ellis joined Gloucester for the 2001/02 season after coaching in France in the 1990s. The former rugby league player moved to the West Country when Phillipe Saint-Andre was director of rugby. Ellis has combined his role at Gloucester with his duties for the French national side.
