Welwyn Warriors got an early Christmas present this week with the news that the girls' rugby club has been awarded 1,000 by The Hertfordshire Sports Partnership.

Team Manager Dave Marques said: "This is fantastic news. It means we can really get our Girls Rugby Development programme going.

"Welwyn Warriors is a very successful team in the county and we intend to make it even better. However, we couldn't have achieved this without the help of so many people."

The monies will be used to help the club with its club/school links programme by providing rugby coaching to girls in years 5 & 6 and 9 & 10. Money will also be spent on purchasing new equipment.

Assistant Team manager Pete McCullough was equally delighted. He added: "We have enjoyed a lot of success recently and with this great funding we can only improve more. Our partner schools are fired up in working with us on this and this is certainly not going to be a one off scheme. We intend to keep the school links going on a permanent basis."
