Help Support Your Volunteers

31 July 2006

Runningsports is a new initiative created by Sport England that is dedicated to providing skills and support for volunteers working in all sports. From quick online tips and tools, to fun and informative workshops, runningsports will help you get more for your organisation and members. Since the close of Sport England''''s Volunteer Investment Programme (VIP) in February 2005, much of the information that VIP provided is now provided by runningsports instead.

Runningsports is all about supporting people like you; volunteers working at local level - in clubs and teams up and down the country by offering skills, support and training to all those people who are already volunteering or who want to volunteer in sport.

runningsports aims to address key issues such as volunteer recruitment, retention management and motivation, club finances, links with schools and accessibility in sports clubs. You will find practical tools and helpful tips, best practice guides from other volunteers, downloadable resources for your use, and details on many other items in the runningsports portfolio like fun and informative workshops that you can participate in. All to help you get the skills you need and, in turn, the very most for your club or sports organisation.

Lisa Wainwright, Head of National Sport at Sport England, introduces runningsports

"Sports volunteers, with their passion, drive, enthusiasm and commitment are priceless and, without doubt, sport's most valuable resource. But we also know that, sometimes, running a club, or helping out at a local sports facility can be hard work. That's why we have developed runningsports.

With runningsports we hope to take away some of the sweat. We've developed a range of easily accessible resources that give you the kind of tools, techniques, skills and support that people like you, volunteers working in sports administration and club management, tell us, would make your life a little easier".
