Gloucester and Bath top the Premiership at Christmas

Guinness Premiership


Going into the Christmas period Gloucester and Bath top the Guinness Premiership with 31 points apiece four clear of third placed Saracens

Bath were 41-10 winners over Leeds Carnegie on Saturday with young winger Matt Banahan leading the way with a hat trick of tries and Olly Barkley scored 21 points including 16 from the boot.


Gloucester joined them on 31 points with a 20-13 win away at Kingston Park against Newcastle Falcons


Saracens are in third place after a 27-20 away win over Harlequins at the Stoop on Saturday. They ran in three tries through the backs and Glen Jackson added 2 points with the boot.


In the big game of the weekend Sale Sharks moved above Leicester Tigers and into fourth place in the table after a 20-14 home win in a tight match with both sides managing a try apiece.


Bristol and Wasps fought out a tough 23 all draw with the Arscott brothers leading the way for the home side. Winger Tom grabbed a double and full back Luke got on as they out scored Wasps by three tries to two but with England hopeful Danny Cipriani kicked all five of this goals it ended a draw.


Worcester picked upa losing bonus points against London Irish going down 23-16 and join Leeds Tykes on five points for the season but stay bottom as they have yet to win this season and Leeds have the one win.


It was a close match which went right down to the end with winger Sailosi Tagicakibau getting the winning try on 77 minutes.
