USA cause upset in Hong Kong

31 March 2007

Saturday 31st May

Barclays Churchill Cup alliance country USA caused the first upset of the famous Hong Kong Sevens yesterday when they beat France 14 5.

USA have improved as a rugby nation over the past few years and are becoming a real threat on the international sevens circuit -  often used to develop young players for the senior team.

In their second pool game they finished within one point of another leading rugby nation - Australia (15 14) showing just how competitive they have begun.  Their final pool match is against Tunisia and success in that match would mean the USA have a chance of reaching the Cup quarter finals.

USA have played in all four Barclays Churchill Cups and will host the 2008 finals.
