Henley flanker gets three weeks suspension

15 December 2008

HENLEY back-row forward Matthew Payne received a three weeks suspension when he appeared before a Rugby Football union disciplinary panel in Coventry this evening.

Payne denied a charge of striking an opponent with his head during the National League Three south match against Rugby Lions on December 6, but he was found guilty by the panel.

Payne's suspension takes into account the one week that was imposed on him by Henley. He will be free to resume playing on December 29.

The hearing was held at the Coventry M6 Holiday Inn Hotel and the panel comprised Sean Enright (chairman), Geoff Payne and Bob Taylor.
