Lions shirts have been flying off the shelves at Twickenham Stadium's Rugby Store, with 2,500 being snapped up after just one day on sale.

Today marks the release of the 2009 British & Irish Lions shirt and the legendary red jersey has already beaten the previous record to become the fastest selling Lions shirt ever.

As well as a range of replica shirts for men, women and children, for the first time fans can also get their hands on the exact playing shirt being that will be worn by the players themselves when they take on World Champions South Africa next summer.

Further deliveries are already on order for the Rugby Store, the UK's number one supplier of rugby merchandise, to meet the anticipated Christmas demand.  Said Head of Retail, Andy Ward, "Given the number we've already sold, there's no doubt that the Lions shirt will be our biggest seller in the run up to Christmas.

"With a range of sizes to suit everyone, from babies and children to ladies, the shirts are already proving to be the perfect Christmas present for every rugby fan and I'm sure the rest of the Lions merchandise range will prove equally popular when it arrives in store in January."

Replica shirts are available in a range of sizes from Baby and Child sizes (28/35 for a shirt and shorts set), Youth (shirt sleeve 40, long sleeve 45), Women's (long sleeve 45) and Men's (short sleeve 50, long sleeve 55), with shorts and socks are also available.

The playing version of the shirt with full bonding and Formotion costs 100.

You can order your Lions merchandise by visiting either of the Rugby Store branches at York Street, Twickenham (open Mon to Sat 10 - 6pm) or Twickenham Stadium (open 363 days a year, Mon to Sat 10 - 6; Sun 11 - 5), online at www.store.rfu.com or by calling the order hotline on 0871 222 2003.
