Galloway has a foot in both camps

31 March 2008

Clive Galloway will have a foot in both camps when Staffordshire entertain North Midlands in the Midlands final of the National Under-20 Championship at Burntwood on Sunday April 6 (2.30pm).

Galloway is both coach of the Staffordshire Under-20 side and coach of Moseley Colts who will provide a strong contingent of players to the North Midlands side.

"The banter started ages ago," Galloway said. "I don't feel I'm in a no-lose situation. I want North Midlands, and in particular the Moseley players, to play really well, but for Staffordshire to play better and go through to the national semi-final.

"There will be many excellent players on both sides playing and it could be a fantastic game of rugby. Staffordshire are aiming to go further than last year when we lost to Devon at the semi-final stage."

The winners of Sunday's tie will travel to play Yorkshire, the defending national champions and winners of the North group, in the semi-finals on April 20.

Staffordshire expect to welcome back scrum-half Ben Robson for the North Midlands game afater he missed their Midlands semi-final win over Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire. Robson is the son of former Moseley and England A scrum-half Simon who has taken coaching sessions for both Staffordshire and Moseley this season.

Centre Alex Jeavons, son of former Moseley and England flanker Nick, played in Staffordshire's win over NL&D but he will miss the Midlands final because he is away on holiday.
