Midlands Under 16s development weekend squad named

  • Midlands prepare for Divisional Festival
  • Squad to be trimmed again after Longton session

The Midlands Under 16 selectors have named a 26-strong squad for a development weekend at Longton RFC’s Trentham Lakes ground in Stoke on December 19 and 20.

The squad was picked after the final Midlands trial at Longton last Sunday which involved 48 players who were selected after impressing in recent inter-county matches.

The squad will be further reduced to 22 after this weekend’s development sessions to provide the final Midlands squad for the first Divisional Festival of the season which will be played at Broadstreet RFC near Coventry from January 9 to 10 and attended by the England selectors.

The four players who do not make the cut for the first Divisional Festival are still expected to play for the Midlands at some stage this season.
