- Buckingham benefit from RFU’s Capital Investment Programme and RFF
- New changing room facilities to be constructed with £75,000 grant
Buckingham Rugby Club have embarked on the next stage of the club’s development with the construction of a new changing room block, supported by a £75,000 grant from the Rugby Football Union’s Capital Investment Programme.
The new facility will supplement the existing changing rooms and will provide two full size changing rooms with integral showers and toilets and a changing room for up to three referees.
The additional changing rooms will allow the club to more easily accommodate the senior men’s sides, the colts side and the growing women’s section, the Swans.
Additional grant funding has been obtained from a grant from the RFU’s Rugby Football Foundation (RFF) and a RFF loan of £50,000 as well as Aylesbury Vale District Council, club funds and member’s donations, Buckingham Town Council and the Buckingham & Gawcott Trust. The project will be completed by April 2010.
"This is the latest stage of what has been a significant improvement in facilities at the club," said Finlay Gemmell, Buckingham’s Honorary Secretary.
"Major pitch drainage work took place three years ago with the help of RFU grant and loan funding, and last year the club purchased land adjacent to the clubhouse and laid out an additional pitch and car park area.
"The club is moving forward and we hope to soon become the first club in Buckinghamshire to obtain the Whole Club Seal of Approval - an RFU accreditation award for clubs that are well managed, well run and are providing a first class facility."
