Australian international Dan Vickerman (52 caps) will captain Cambridge as they take on old rivals Oxford, led by former England U16 hooker Dan Rosen, in this year’s Nomura Varsity Match at Twickenham on December 10.
With Cambridge currently leading Oxford by 60 wins to 53 and 14 matches drawn, Oxford have all to play for as they aim to win for a second successive year and settle a 128 year feud in 80 minutes. Tickets for the 2.00pm kick off are available now at varsitymatch.org or by calling 0844 847 2492.
Vickerman, who has joined Northampton Saints for this season is midway through a three-year Land Economy course at Hughes Hall College and was a member of the Cambridge side that lost to Oxford last year, 29-33.
"We have a very exciting fixture list which culminates in the big day on December 10,” said the Wallaby lock. “As a group we are really looking forward to challenges a new season brings and playing against a host of teams which includes a number of full time professionals. Whilst challenging, this will bring the best out of both individuals and the groups as a whole running through the season giving us a great preparation for the Varsity match."
Rosen, a three time Blue and Barbarian, is currently studying for a D Phil in Pharmacology at Worcester Park and will be hoping to lead his side to victory for a second successive year.
Rosen said: "While we are all brimming with excitement as we embark on the new season, it is important not to look too far ahead of ourselves. The boys have worked hard over the summer and have come back in great shape. Already as a squad we are looking sharp. I have every confidence this will be another memorable season."
Paul Vaughan, RFU Business Operations Director, said: "The atmosphere at the Varsity Match is always electric and being so close to Christmas it's the perfect excuse for an office get together. The Varsity Match is an essential date in the rugby calendar and last year's match was probably one of the best games of the season with Oxford closing the gap on Cambridge. Oxford have it all to play for again this year as they try to win back to back victories."
Tickets for the Twickenham spectacular start from £20.00 (£10.00 for students with a valid NUS card). Tickets are available online or by calling Ticketmaster on 0844 847 2492.
