- Year 5 and 6 children to compete in tag festival
School children from Birmingham will be given the chance to learn from the very best in women’s rugby when England Head Coach Gary Street and players Sarah Hunter and Laura Keates attend a Tag Festival in the city on April 27.
Street, whose side will contest the Women‘s Rugby World Cup 2010 (WRWC) in London this summer, joins England forwards Hunter and Keates at the Sheldon Heath Community Arts College on Tuesday.
Year 5 and 6 teams from all over the local area will compete in the tag festival looking to win trophies and medals. Street, Keates and Hunter, who plays her club rugby for Lichfield, will also lead some practical sessions as well as hand out the prizes.
England Head Coach Gary Street said: "Events like this are really special and getting children into sport is really important, and that is why we support initiatives like this. Myself, Sarah and Laura are really looking forward to meeting the youngsters and seeing how they get on. Women’s rugby is a rapidly growing sport, and events like this can only help get more girls into the game."
The WRWC takes place at Guildford’s Surrey Sports Park, with the semi finals and the finals staged at Twickenham’s Stoop. Tickets are now on sale via RFU.com.
