- NZ captain says England face a battle if they want to win the title
New Zealand captain Melissa Ruscoe is urging her side to turn last season’s setback against England to their advantage on the eve of the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
The Black Ferns have won the last three tournaments but were beaten 10-3 by tournament hosts England at Twickenham last November.
The tournament kicks off on Friday, August 20 at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford with New Zealand in action against South Africa (4.15pm) and England taking on Ireland (6.30pm).
"The psychological scars will definitely be there to boost us. We knew we’d played bad but we only just lost so that’s a little bit of confidence for us," Ruscoe told the RFU.com podcast.
The extensive tournament preview also includes interviews with England captain Catherine Spencer, USA’s Ashley English, Wales co-captain Melissa Berry, Scotland’s Lynne Reid, South Africa’s Mandisa Williams and Australia’s Cheryl Soon.
