Martin Johnson is excited by the addition of Chris Ashton, the Guinness Premiership’s leading try-scorer, and experienced centre Shontayne Hape to his England squad.

Northampton Saints' free-scoring wing Ashton – who has nine tries this term – and Bath’s Hape have been included in the England Senior Elite Player squad ahead of the RBS 6 Nations opener against Wales at Twickenham Stadium on February 6.

And Team Manager Johnson told the RFU Podcast: "We have brought Chris in on the form he has shown in the Guinness Premiership and the Heineken Cup – he is an exciting young player who is scoring a lot of tries and jumped ahead of a couple of guys who have caps.

"Shontayne has that experience and it's a chance for us to look at him. Riki Flutey has taken his opportunity very well last season but missed the autumn because of an injury but it gives us depth in that centre position."
