England Women’s wing Fiona Pocock will be hoping to set the Women’s Rugby World Cup alight this summer, and at just 21 years of age and with 18 caps to her name, she has every opportunity of doing so.
RFU.com spent 60 seconds with the England star to learn a little bit more about her pre-match superstitions and the type of music she likes to listen to before matches.
RFU.com: What is your pre-match routine and do you have any superstitions before you play for England?
Fiona Pocock: It sounds a bit silly, but every time I play for England I put on a lucky pair of pants. I never wear them outside of a rugby environment but they go on at the last minute before my England short.
AUDIO – 60 seconds with Fiona Pocock
RFU.com: Do you have any music that you listen to before a match to get motivated?
FP: Not really to be honest, I like to listen to anything that’s got a beat. Although before we get on the team coach, myself and my roommate Kat Merchant like to dance a bit to Enrique Iglesias which gets us excitable and in a good mood ahead of a game.
RFU.com: So is Kat one of the jokers in the pack?
FP: Yeah definitely. Not that she actually has any sense of humour but it’s fun to mock her, the banter’s great within the camp.
