Birmingham & Solihull have named experienced prop Matt Long as their new captain for the forthcoming campaign.

The 37-year-old has previously skippered the England Counties squad on two occasions, including the three-match tour to Canada this year.

And Bees director of rugby Russell Earnshaw believes Long can help lead the club forward.

"Matt demands and earns respect from everybody at the club, from the players to the management," said Earnshaw.

"He's a quality player and has bags of experience, which is vital for us going into the new Championship campaign.

"His influence on some of the younger players in our squad and his standing with the senior members will help to drive us forward towards achieving our goals for the season."
