- Pablo Canavosio try secures first RBS 6 Nations win for Italy in two years
- Defeat leaves Scotland staring at the wooden spoon after three defeats
Pablo Canavosio’s second-half try gave Italy their first RBS 6 Nations win this season and their first since beating Scotland at the Stadio Flaminio two years ago.
Italy wing Mirco Bergamasco and Scotland fly half Dan Parks exchanged two penalties each in the first period to make the score 6-6 at half time in Rome.
Soon after the break the same two players exchanged three pointers – Parks with a drop goal – before Scotland took the lead for the first time in the game with a Parks penalty.
But the second half belonged to replacement scrum half Canavosio, who dived over under the posts after collecting Gonzalo Canale’s offload.
Bergamasco converted to stretch the lead and Italy held on to secure a famous win for Nick Mallett’s side.
