- England trio to pass on tips to youngsters
England Women internationals Kat Merchant and Sarah Hunter and England A scrum-half Sarah Guest will be making a guest appearance at the West Midlands Emerging Schools finals day at Kings Norton RFC and Five Ways OE RFC adjoining grounds at Hopwood near Birmingham on 23 March.
The trio will be presenting prizes and also offering coaching advice during their visit to the finals day.
Merchant, a winger and Guest, play their club rugby for Worcester, while flanker Hunter, a Rugby Football Union Community Rugby Coach, plays for Lichfield.
The festival will also give Merchant, Hunter and Guest an early opportunity to assess who might win the Women’s World Cup which is being staged in England from August 20 to September 5.
The ten schools, from North Midlands, Staffordshire and Warwickshire, taking part in the girls tournament next week will each play as one of the countries who will be taking part in the World Cup, though none of them will play as England.
Blessed Edwards from North Midlands will play in the festival as New Zealand, Walsall Academy as Australia, Cardinal Newman from Warwickshire as Wales, Aldridge HS from Staffordshire as France and Walton HS from Staffordshire as World Cup outsiders Kazakhstan.
Schools taking part in the boys tournaments are:
Year Seven New: Barr Beacon (Staffordshire), Wood Green and Stuart Bathurst (North Midlands) and Heartshill (Warwickshire)
Year Seven Emerged: Walton HS and Aldridge HS (Staffordshire), Windsor and Lacon Childe (North Midlands), Heart of England and Higham Lane (Warwickshire)
Year Eight New: Kingmeade Technology College and Hagley Park (Staffordshire), Aldermansmith (Warwickshire)
Year Eight Emerged: Shire Oak HS and Aldridge HS (Staffordshire), The Grove and Haybridge HS (North Midlands), St Thomas Moore and Myton (Warwickshire)
Year Nine Emerged: De Ferres HS and St Francis HS (Staffordshire), Cockshutt Hill (North Midlands)
