Scunthorpe set for Champions Cup final

  • Ampthill face Jersey in Champions Cup

Scunthorpe will be aiming to complete a trophy double when they take on Hartpury College from Gloucestershire in the inaugural Divisional One Champions Cup final at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday, May 8 (4pm).

The Lincolnshire side have already secured the Midlands One East title and now have their sights on collecting further silverware in the new competition for the eight regional league winners at level six in the pyramid structure.

Scunthorpe defeated Midlands One West winners Burton in last week’s quarter-finals and booked their trip to Twickenham with a 25-10 home win over Lymm last Saturday.

"It's a fantastic way to end the campaign," said Scunthorpe coach Tim Robinson, a former England Under-21 full back.

"It was a great season just to get the promotion, we met the target that we set ourselves with that.

"And after the disappointment of losing to Hereford in the play-offs last year this has made up for it two-fold."

Ampthill, who won the National Three Midlands title, will also be in action at Twickenham on Saturday in the inaugural National Three Champions Cup final against Jersey, winners of National Three London & SE, at 2pm.
