Nick Tompkins will captain England Under 16 in their internationals against Italy Under 17 at Macclesfield on April 20 and Wales under 16 at Fylde on April 24.

Centre Tompkins already has plenty of captaincy experience at his school, Bishop Justus, and with Kent Schools.

England limbered up for their two internationals with a victory over a strong Leicester Academy Under 17 at Cokethorpe School in Oxfordshire last month which lead coach Phil Stanlake hopes will stand his squad in good stead for next week.

"I’m very pleased with our build up," Stanlake said. "We had a good workout against Leicester which was a big challenge for us.

"We played it as a proper match rather than a conditioned game and they were very well-organised. It was just what we needed in terms of preparing for Italy and Wales.

"It’s difficult to know what to expect from our two internationals because sides change each year, so we will try to concentrate on our own processes.

"Italy are usually a physical side because they are a year older but last year they provided a lot of problems for us in the backs with their fly half and centres.

"Wales always have a side that is very skilful. But we will probably have a better idea of what we are likely to be up against after the weekend as Wales play Italy at Colwyn Bay on Saturday."

England will have their scouts at Colwyn Bay who will report back to Stanlake when England assemble at their Cheshire training base on Sunday.

England are expected to announce their starting XV to face Italy next Monday.
