We catch up with Exeter Chiefs full back Jack Nowell who gives us the lowdown from Sydney, Australia where he is on tour with the England U18 squad.

We’re in Australia now, and can’t wait to get started with some rugby training. It wasn’t a short flight, but it’s great to finally get here in Sydney and we’ve already checked out Bondi Beach and been to a zoo.

We had to take sleeping tablets when we were back at Twickenham which knocked us out during the day, and we then had to train in the middle of the night at Harrow School! It was all quite strange, but was carefully planned by our Doctor and was part of the acclimatisation process. It worked though, as most of us are feeling pretty fresh now.

It’s great to see all the boys again, it’s been a while since our trip to France back in April so it’s good to catch up and get back together. We’re planning on having some fun out here and just enjoying the rugby, but to be honest the fun started in the Twickenham car park.

I got a cab up with all of the other Exeter Chiefs lads and when we got there my club mate Sam Hill thought he left his backpack on the taxi, so he chased after it down the road before realising that it was actually on his back. He then thought he had lost his suitcase, but it was behind him... so a funny way to start the trip!

Australia is a great country and they love their rugby, we’ve got three big games out here which as a group we're relishing.

The first one is against an U19 New South Wales side, the second one against Australia A Schools and the third one a Test match against Australia, so while the first two are massively important, the third one is the big one.

We’re looking forward to playing our style of rugby and showing what we can do – we try and play an expansive game; I like to run the ball from full back and we have quick backs who can expose gaps and cause choas. Unfortunately we’re missing two big players in Tony Watson and Mark Jennings, but we’ve got a lot of strength in depth so we’ll be fine.

When I get back home I’m looking forward to enjoying my loan period with Plymouth Albion in the Championship and hopefully getting some game time.

I had a taste of it playing in the JP Morgan 7s for Chiefs and it was great to get a run out with the first team coaches and first team players – I loved it.

I also played against a few of my England U18 teammates which was good fun. I’m ready and focussed for a good season with Plymouth and seeing where that takes me, but before then we’ve got some games to win Down Under!
