Loughborough honoured by local council

21 December 2011

  • Promotion acknowledged by Charnwood Borough Council
  • Leicestershire club win Senior Team of the Year Prize

Loughborough’s first team won the Senior Team of the Year prize at Charnwood Borough Council’s annual Sports Awards.

The award recognised Loughborough’s achievement as an amateur club in winning promotion from Midlands Two East (North) last season as runners-uo to Market Rasen & Louth.

Loughborough are now competing in Midlands One East (North), the highest level they have ever reached in the league structure.

The Charnwood Borough Council Sports Awards ceremony was held at Loughborough Town Hall and celebrated the wealth of sporting talent in the borough.

Once again, the night was a huge success with a great turn out of athletes, coaches, and volunteers. The evening kicked off with all guests being serenaded by Loughborough University's Gospel Choir as they entered the hall.

Guests were introduced to Loughborough’s Olympic legend Tommy Godwin, 91, who won two bronze medals in the 1948 Games in London. He showed off the original 1948 Olympic torch and his medals to bring some Olympic history to the awards.
