Leeds Carnegie captain Marco Wentzel has signed a new two-year contract with the Aviva Premiership club.
The South African lock, who joined Carnegie from Leicester at the start of last season, said: "It is an honour to captain the side, and I know that brighter days lie ahead for us.
"Obviously, we find ourselves at the foot of the table at the moment, but I have huge belief in this squad and I am sure we can get ourselves out of this situation."
The announcement of Wentzel's contract extension comes ahead of this weekend's crunch game against fellow strugglers Newcastle, when Leeds will look to make amends for their 39-0 loss at leaders Saracens on Saturday.
Head coach Neil Back added: "It is fantastic news that Marco has agreed a new deal with the club.
"Marco's professionalism and the way he carries himself both on and off the pitch is an example of where we want to take our club."
