England Women U20s team to face USA in Nations Cup Final

22 July 2011

  • England looking to finish season unbeaten
  • Mills to lead England

The England Women’s Under 20s side to face the USA in Saturday’s Nations Cup final in Santa Barbara, kick off 4pm local time, 12am BST, has been announced.

England Head Coach Amanda Bennett has made widespread changes to the side that booked England’s place in the final with an impressive victory over South Africa on Wednesday. Lichfield’s Harriet Mills will once again captain the Under 20s.

England sealed their Final place with a 41-0 win over Canada, a 37-0 victory over the USA and a 66-7 win over South Africa. If England can lift the Nations Cup title the victory would cap a remarkable season for the U20s with wins over Scotland, Wales and France also.

Bennett said: “We go into the final on the back of three victories including a convincing win over our rivals in the final, the USA. However, its clear all the teams have improved over the course of the tournament and the USA’s win against Canada showed just how mentally tough they are, sealing a win in the final minute.

“We have made significant improvements to our game especially in technical areas and the player commitment to developing and excelling has been fantastic. This has been a huge learning curve for them and one thing they need to learn now is how to win under pressure. We set ourselves a bold objective for the Nations Cup and to win would cap a hugely successful season.”
