England Sevens are in great shape ahead of the start of the new HSBC Sevens World Series, as this unique behind the scenes look at them in training shows.

The campaign begins on the Gold Coast in Australia on November 25-26 with pool games on the first day against Scotland, Wales and Tonga.

The team gave Sky Sports exclusive access to gym and fitness testing sessions – where Esher’s Sam Edgerley smashed a testing record - as they strive to hit the ground running in Queensland in the first leg of the nine tournament series.

Squad members Ollie Phillips, Chris Cracknell and James Rodwell, and head coach Ben Ryan outline their pre-season preparations.

"Our training's very specific towards being athletes and being top end high performance athletes at that," said Cracknell.

"It's definitely come on in terms of fitness levels and the handling," said Phillips, the 2009 IRB World Sevens Player of the Year. "I didnt' realise until I'd done a couple of sessions and was looking at the porcelain bowl quite how hard it is!"
