Following the announcement in September that the Sky Sports HD – in agreement with the Championship clubs – will be boosting their coverage of the competition, the broadcasters have brought viewers closer to the action with player warm-up interviews, half–time comments and exclusive changing room access.
Cornish Pirates were the first side to host Sky Sports back in September when they faced former Premiership outfit Leeds Carnegie. Both head coaches spoke with Sky Sports Senior Live Reporter Bill Latham on their entry into the Mennaye Field, offering their thoughts on the game ahead.
On the pitch, former Gloucester Rugby head coach Dean Ryan chatted with captains Gavin Cattle and Andy Titterrell during their warm-ups for the Round 4 fixture, which saw the home side run away with a 52-10 win.
Bedford Blues and Bristol Rugby have followed suit, both hosting Sky Sports over the last two-weeks. The latest of the two saw the West Country men play host to London Welsh in what was billed a “top of the table” clash, and what a game it turned out to be. In front of a 6,000 strong crowd and the Sky Sports cameras, both sides providing a thrilling showcase for RFU Championship rugby that saw Bristol run in an eightieth minute try to seal a 35-33 win.
