England fan Patricia Cove was so desperate to get her husband Allan to the 2011 Rugby World Cup that she saved every penny possible – from the moment the final whistle went to signal the end of the 2007 final!

So, on his birthday this year, recently retired Allan got the best shock of his life as Patricia produced two tickets for all of England’s pool matches in New Zealand, part of a great offer from England Rugby Travel.

“After watching the final in France four years ago my mind suddenly went forward to 2011 and I realised that my husband would be retiring in May of that year,” said Patricia from her hotel in New Zealand.

“I thought it would be a great retirement present if we could get out to New Zealand and I saved everywhere I could, keeping it a total secret by using my son’s address for all the communication and admin. I didn’t tell Allan until May 15 this year – his birthday.

“When he opened the card I don’t think he could believe it – he was very shocked but also delighted. I think it was only when he saw the itinerary that he realised we were actually going. It was a bit like a fairytale.”

After booking a bespoke package for all of England’s pool games, Patricia and Allan – both season ticket holders with Aviva Premiership club Gloucester – have not only enjoyed a truly memorable rugby experience but have also discovered a great country after some fabulous excursions, also organised by England Rugby Travel.

“The opening ceremony was wonderful and England’s game against Argentina was very emotional because it was so close and tense,” Patricia explained.

“We have also been lucky enough to explore Queenstown. The whole place is very beautiful, with fantastic scenery everywhere. I don’t think we could have had a more brilliant time if we tried – I just hope England keep winning!”

After watching Martin Johnson’s men face Scotland in Auckland, Patricia and Allan will enjoy four days in Fiji and then a week in Sydney before flying home. Life back in Kingsholm will never seem the same again!

It’s still possible to be in the thick of the action at Rugby World Cup 2011 by booking one of the exclusive packages here.
