- North prepare for Midlands challenge
- Heath leave it late but squeeze through
National RU Under 17 Knockout action becomes an inter-regional affair on Sunday, April 22, when the Midlands/North Semi-finals are staged at Doncaster RFC’s Castle Park head-quarters.
In the Northern finals on Sunday (April 1), the host club earned themselves home advantage in the Plate by edging out Chester 8-5 and now take on Derby, while Wilmslow’s 22-3 victory at Bolton earns them a trip across the Pennines for the Shield game against Moseley.
The winners of the delayed Hartlepool Rovers v Wharfedale Bowl game, which will be played on Sunday (April 8) will face Shrewsbury at Doncaster, while Yorkshire’s Cup challengers Heath await the outcome of an appeal before they will know whether they will face Worcester or Nuneaton after they pipped Wirral 12-11 in Cheshire.
Heath snatched the Northern Cup with two tries in five minutes at the end of the game at Wirral where they had been under the cosh for long spells and needed to show huge resolve to prevent the home side building an unassailable lead with the wind at their backs.
The decisive score came from centre Sam Pollard, who delivered a conversion from wide out to give his side the Northern title and a place at Doncaster.
The finals will be played at Worcester RFC’s Sixways headquarters on Sunday, May 6, 2012.
