  • England ready for Parma heat

Yorkshire’s  Jack Walker will captain England Under 16s in their international against Italy Under 17s in Parma on Saturday April 7 (2pm BST).

Hooker Walker (Settle College and North Ribblesdale) skipperedEngland in their warm up matches against Under 17 sides from the Leicester Tigers and London Wasps academies and impressed lead coach Phil Stanlake with his leadership qualities.

“Jack has already played for England Under 17s so he’s got that experience,” Stanlake said.

“He’s got a good personality, he relates to the players well and he’s shown good leadership in the matches that we have played.”

England swapped icy cold in England for warm sunshine in Italy when they trained in Parma today and Stanlake expects conditions to be similar to last year when England beat Italy 16-6 in energy-sapping weather at Macclesfield.

“It’s shorts and t-shorts weather here at the moment although there is some rain forecast overnight,” Stanlake said.

“We trained on the stadium pitch this morning and the pitch was very firm and dry. If the conditions are the same as they were at Macclesfield they will be very tough.”

England Under 16s play their second international against Wales Under 16s at Wellington College in Berkshire on April 11 (2pm).
