- Gloucestershire set to take on Leicestershire in National U20 Championship semi final
- Yorkshire and Hertfordshire also in the mix
Gloucestershire U20 face a must win match this Sunday (April 15) when they take on Leicestershire at Lydney RFC in the National Under 20s Championship semi finals.
The South West side boast an impressive record in the tournament winning three of the last four finals at Twickenham and this year the county are as eager as ever to keep their winning momentum going.
Gloucestershire booked their spot in the last four – alongside Leicestershire, Yorkshire and Hertfordshire – following a tense 15-24 victory in extra time against South West play-off finalists Berkshire last month. They have also defeated Cornwall, Devon and Somerset on route to the semi finals.
Gloucestershire Team Manager Bob Ward said: "We made hard work of winning our South West play-off match against Berkshire. We have had some bad luck with injuries this year with some key players out of action so we did not field a full strength side. But at the same time, we can’t take anything away from Berkshire who were a good and organised outfit. It was a dogged way of winning the game but in the end our conditioning and determination shone through.
"This weekend we need to be sharper. We will have a strong squad to choose from whilst we know Leicestershire have a lot of divisional players in their squad so they certainly deserve their place in the semi-finals. We have been training really hard and we won’t be taking them lightly at all.
"As ever our ultimate ambition is to win the championship and I believe we have got a very strong squad capable of doing this. So far the side haven’t really clicked completely but I am confident this will happen this Sunday against Leicestershire."
The final of the National U20 Championship will take place at Worcester Warriors Sixways Stadium on May 13
