Beech Hill School through to national festival

23 April 2012

  • MLD tournament a success despite wet weather
  • Stoke Mandeville festival next for Nottinghamshire winners

Beech Hill School from Mansfield won the Midlands East tournament for Moderate Learning Difficulty schools which was staged at Coalville’s Memorial ground recently.

Beech Hill were one of five schools from Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire who braved cold and wet weather to take part in the tag rugby tournament which was the culmination of coaching programmes in each of the schools.

Beech Hill beat Ellesmere College from Leicester in the final and they will now progress to the National Moderate Learning Difficulty festival at Stoke Mandeville Stadium on May 16.

"Despite the weather not being on our side, all the teams enjoyed some top class coaching and then we had a really competitive tag tournament with schools from Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire," said Luke Green, the RFU Community Rugby Coach for Leicestershire.

"It is an annual programme and helps to bring the many forms of rugby to a wider group of players."

Jenna Studley, the RFU Rugby Development Officer for Leicestershire, said: "It is great to organise an event like this for youngsters who do not have the opportunity to play rugby very often.

"It was very well supported by the players and teachers and shows what teamwork and commitment can achieve."
