Castleford RUFC enjoyed a double celebration when Yorkshire RFU President Steve Watson officially opened the new clubhouse facilities and also presented the RFU’s latest Club Accreditation Award.

Partly funded by a grant of over £40,000 from the RFU, changes to the club’s Willowbridge Lane headquarters incorporated a clubhouse refurbishment and a new changing room extension.

The RFU Club Accreditation recognises efforts made by clubs to grow and develop the game and provide facilities that attract members and become stronger, more effective, more efficient and more enjoyable places in which to play rugby.

Congratulating the club, the President said that the award reflected the hard work of the club’s General Committee and club members in reaching exacting standards.

“The club has set the standard and by continued hard work it will succeed in providing the right environment to bring junior players through to senior rugby and maintain the future of the club.” he said

Club Honorary Secretary Steve Ball said: “The Accreditation is an exacting measure and receiving it shows to others outside the club that we are doing a lot right.

“The RFU’s grant was welcome funding to enable us to build much-needed facilities and they are as good as any in the area. They are already being used and they will definitely help us to capitalise on the potential playing strength in the club and our locality.”
