“We put ourselves in a position to win it and I’m very proud of the boys efforts. We always had the inner belief, but all credit to the Welsh they played well, they came back well in the second half and a couple of little errors by us and that’s the game. That’s the level. Sometimes you’ve got to go through tough times to improve and certainly we’ll take a lot of credit from the performance, a lot of pride, but also the players are hurting because they care and that’s the way it should be.”

England Captain Chris Robshaw

“Very disappointed here today. We came to get a win, we had a huge amount of support behind us and we like to think our performance was much improved. I think we showed we’ve got a huge amount of potential in the coming weeks and coming years. The supporters were absolutely outstanding and we were even struggling to hear each other at one point on the pitch. They got right behind us and we wanted to show how committed and proud we are to be playing for them and for the rest of the country.”

“Credit to the Welsh, they stuck strong, we threw a lot at them and they threw a lot at us and it was a good game of rugby. Very disappointed to be coming off without a win, particularly on something as close as that try where we could have at least drawn the game. A lot of positives to take from the game, but a lot of disappointment as well.”

England fly half Owen Farrell

“We’re pretty gutted, but we really did work as hard as we can and I thought the team was outstanding. We made a massive step in the right direction today.”
