Westgate wins National Coach Award

  • Uppingham School’s Director of Sport Paul Westgate honoured
  • Former Exeter and Nuneaton coach takes top prize

Leicestershire-based Paul Westgate won the Coach Educator of the Year Award at the RFU National Awards for Coaching Excellence held at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire.

Westgate, currently director of sport at Uppingham School, has worked as the Midlands East region’s Coach Educator and Trainer for the past two years having previously carried out the same role in London South.

He has contributed a great deal to the training and on-going development of coaches in the area and has also assisted on RFU teachers’ days and at divisional coaching conferences.

Westgate has significant coaching at senior level having been in charge of Exeter and Nuneaton in the past. He has also coached at Loughborough University as well as the England Students and England Counties international sides.

Since joining Uppingham School Westgate has also worked on the Leicestershire School of Rugby helping to mentor coaches to ensure that the quality of coaching received by players on the programme is of the highest quality.
