Sixways Stadium was today announced as the chosen venue for the 2011-2012 LV= Cup final.

Home of Worcester Warriors and with a capacity of over  12,000, Sixways has become a firm favourite for hosting showcase fixtures such as the 2011 Churchill Cup, England Women and England U20s representative matches and of course, the 2010 LV= Cup final.

Now in its third year, the LV= Cup is recognised as a crucial development competition for future international stars and has helped produce players including Ben Youngs, Courtney Lawes and Charlie Sharples, all of whom have been named in the England squad for the RBS 6 Nations.

Commenting on behalf of the Rugby Football Union, Professional Rugby Director, Rob Andrew said:

“Every year we look at a range of venues across the country to host the LV= Cup final, taking into account various criteria including ground capacity, stadium facilities and location. From our experience with holding representative matches at Sixways, we know it delivers on all these factors and I’ve no doubt will offer a superb match day experience for all supporters.”

Charlie Little, Managing Director of Worcester Warriors, also welcomed the news:

“We are delighted to host the LV= Cup final at Sixways. We have been fortunate to host some outstanding rugby fixtures here and are confident that we can help put on an equally good match day for the LV= Cup final.”

The 2010-11 LV= Cup final, held at Franklin’s Gardens, attracted nearly 10,000 supporters and was the climax to a weekend of top class rugby. Rugby fans can expect more of the same this year with the final taking place on Sunday March 18, the day after England take on Ireland in RBS 6 Nations at Twickenham.
