Entries are being sought for the National Colts Cup which will run as an Under 18 competition next season.
The change from an Under 19 competition has been made because more Constituent Bodies have been moving in this direction and a review by the RFU Age Grade Committee has concluded that there is no requirement for Under 19 national competitions.
Bedford Blues, who have won the National Colts Cup in five of the last six seasons, have already confirmed that they will not be defending their title.
Entries from clubs in England, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man who are members of the RFU can enter the competition.
There is a non-refundable entry fee of £40. Entries should be made by August 21 to East Midlands Rugby Union, The Rugby House, Wellingborough School, Irthlingborough Road, Wellingborough, NN8 2BX.
The National Colts Cup was introduced in the 1997/98 season as part of the East Midlands RU’s centenary celebrations.
The competition is still administered by the East Midlands RU and has continued to grow in strength and popularity.
Matches in the early rounds are played locally, within the old RFU Divisions, and teams knocked-out during these early stages are entered into a Plate Competition which is organised to be played alongside the main Cup Competition.
The draw for the early rounds will take place in the offices of the East Midlands Rugby Union on Wednesday, August 22.
