- Three-part series involves opens new horizons
- A chance to try burgeoning Sevens game
Sevens rugby devotees and 15-a-side players interested in trying their hand at the increasingly popular version of the game will have an ideal opportunity to do just that at a series of competitions being staged in Lancashire during a three-week period starting on July 20.
As part of the England Rugby National 7s Series, the Lancashire Rugby Union Development Centre Project has been chosen to represent the region and will be hosting “The North Lancashire Super 7s Series”.
The programme will be held on three consecutive Fridays at Blackburn RUFC (July 20), Fleetwood RUFC (July 27) and Fylde RUFC August 3), with entries being accepted from clubs or groups of players. Squads can be up to 12, entry is free and the only stipulation is that players must be 17 or over.
Mark Nelson, the Lancashire Rugby Union Development Centre manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for players and spectators to play this version of the game, enjoy entertainment, BBQ s and refreshments at a local rugby club.
“I’m looking for between 8 – 12 teams at each event and am really hoping that teams will enter all three tournaments. There is no fee and anyone can come and play.”
Prizes will be awarded to festival and overall winners, with all events starting at 6.45pm and finishing at 9.30pm.
