Redman and Perry top bill at Midlands Coaching Conference

  • Internationals and Premiership stars to present at conference

Former England international Nigel Redman and Shaun Perry are among a high-quality line-up of guest presenters for this year’s Midlands Coaching Conference.

The conference, which will be held at Welbeck College in Leicestershire from July 14 to 15, is aimed at first team coaches of adult sides from across the Midlands.

Redman, the former Bath lock, is about to join Aviva Premiership club Worcester Warriors after eight years working for the RFU as National Academy coach, England Under 20s head  coach and Elite Coach Development Manager.

He will run a session on the opening day of the Midlands Coaching Conference on the philosophy of coaching.

Perry, scrum half at Worcester Warriors, will also run a session on the Saturday on halfback play, with other sessions on the opening day from Richard Blaze and Ben Woods, Leicester Tigers players past and present, and Graham Smith, assistant coach of England Women, on the line-out.

Alan Biggs, the RFU Regional Referee Development Manager for Midlands West, will run a session on the opening day on not conceding penalties and Worcester Warriors lock James Percival passing on tips on re-starts.

The second day of the conference will include a session from Tosh Askew, Leicester Tigers Assistant Academy Manager on core handling skills.

Former Northampton Saints hooker Dan Richmond, who is now part of the coaching team at Bedford Blues, will run a session on line out training and Ben Woods will be back to pass on tips on core skills at the tackle.

Former Gloucester flanker Andrew Stanley, who has returned to Kingsholm as Academy manager after stint working in a similar capacity for Worcester Warriors, will present on the qualities of elite players.

The cost of the Midlands Coaching Conference is £175 which includes VAT, full board and the Midlands Coaching Awards Dinner.
