England Students have named their squad for this Sunday’s game against Emerging Italy in L’Aquila.

On April 6th, 2009, an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 caused devastation in the historic town and over three hundred people were killed, including several members of the L’Aquila Rugby Club. This is the first non-club game to be played there since.

The match – which will be televised on Rai Sport and with a capacity crowd of 10,000 hoped for – will feature the best uncapped Italian players and will raise funds for an artificial rugby pitch in L'Aquila through the Forza L'Aquila charity established by Carlo Caione, an international flanker from 1995 to 2001.

England Students have enjoyed a good season, following up a narrow 31-28 defeat away against Portugal with a 43-15 win against Wales Students at The Stoop.

Team manager Steve Colwell said: "This game is a big test for us, we’re really looking forward to the challenge and are very focused on the task ahead.. The win against Wales was pleasing and of course we’re looking to follow that up with another win."

"In some ways this game is about a lot more than rugby – the town of L’Aquila has been through a lot and it’s a privilege to come here and play in front of what we hope will be a big crowd. We'll also be spending time working with local children's teams during the trip.”
